🔺Masjid Jamek (pronounced with the accent on the first letter "a" Jamek) is one of the oldest and most famous mosques in Kuala Lumpur. It was built on the location of an old Malay burial place at the confluence of Klang and Gombak River Perhaps it could be put on the second place most visited by tourists among the mosques of the capital, along with the National Mosque. It is also referred to as "Friday Mosque" by the locals.

🔺For tourists, the mosque is attractive, and the fact that at certain times it opens the door for tourists to visit and it can be anyone, regardless of faith. Moreover, to walk not only on the territory of the mosque but you can go inside, and even in the center of it is an old building. There are not even any bans for women.

🔺At the entrance are provided free of charge with clean tidy capes, but if your knees and shoulders are closed, you can go to the mosque without it. Literally right at the entrance are very polite and unobtrusive volunteers give, if necessary, these capes, help her dress, and will instruct on rules of conduct. If you are lucky, inside the mosque, in the center of it in an old building, from other volunteers, you will be able to listen to again free lecture-tour about the mosque and about the Islamic faith. They are happy to answer all the questions tourists, even the most stupid, and very friendly. The entrance to the old building of non-Muslims is possible only on a small patch, limited soft barriers, but you can take pictures without any restrictions.

🔺That is really nice, all is done with no pressure, and no one, no donations are not "extort", unfriendly does not show. But if you wish, you can leave donations in a box at the exit.

🔺Although it is the first large mosque in the city, in fact, it was only built in 1909, because Kuala Lumpur is a very young city. The architect was Arthur Benison Hubback who designed the mosque in the Indian Muslim Mughal architectural style. The design of the mosque has been described as Moorish, Indo-Saracenic, or Mughal architecture.

🔺Until 1965 it was the main mosque of Kuala Lumpur.
